11/28 Remembering Our Favorite Toys & Stories

Post  jinettyx on Mon Nov 28 2011, 03:22

Turn back the time folks...back to when you were a little person.
What favorite toy or story do you remember....
Share your childhood memories with us....
Maybe you're still a child at heart and still cherish a toy from the past.

Mr.Blue and Me

Post  jinettyx on Mon Nov 28 2011, 05:04

Mr.Blue and Me
jinettyx on Tue 1 Nov - 8:51

.Mr.Blue and Me.

Once upon a time gone past
When I was barely three
My Dad came home from work one day
And said these words to me.

“I’ve got something special for you
But I must give it to your Mum
To wash, before you have it
As it’s grubby round the tum”.

This night was dull and rainy
And Dad couldn’t see too much
He put on his reversing lights
And pressed down on his clutch

But laying in a puddle
Just behind the wheel
Something soft and furry
Was just about to squeal.

The sound was rather sickening
He thought he’d killed a cat
Afraid of what he’d find there
Dead and squashed and flat!

He picked up the little creature
Relieved was he to see
It was not a furry pussycat
But a little blue bear for me

This little bear was special
My little bear…unique
For when Daddy ran him over
All he’d broken was his squeak

And so, a special friendship started
Between me and Mr.Blue
We’d go everywhere together
To the shops and to the zoo

We’d frolic in the playground
Be together at the ‘flicks’
And even when I caught a cold
We’d even share the ‘Vicks’

As years went by our friendship
Was as strong as strong can be
I vowed to love him always
My Mr.Blue and me.

I’d tell him all my secrets
And I’d share with him, my fears
And I’d make his fur all soggy
By shedding all my tears

One day, Mr.Blue went missing
I was beside myself with dread
I looked underneath the covers
I looked underneath the bed

I looked in every other room
But couldn’t find my ted
Screaming, crying frantically
I ran to Mum instead.

My sister thought it would be fun
If not, a little cruel
To take my little bear from me
And take him to her school

She dumped him in a ‘jumble sale’
To sell for ‘sweetie money’
Mum yelled at her for doing this
And said she wasn’t funny!

She made her go back to the school
And buy my teddy back
And if she came back empty-handed
Be prepared to get a smack!

Poor Mr.Blue, he looked so sad
His end, so nearly tragic
I’m so very pleased to get him back
My Mr.Blue…you’re MAGIC!!!

I remember a tall man walking up the road towards me starring right at me and me looking into kind eyes - both of us a little scared.
He gave me a Blue rabbit with wire ears, called BO BO.....

Not really a toy story but definately a good childhood memory

Aunties House

Aunties house was big and white
Least that's how it looked to me
Straw thatched roof topped it off
Was the world’s best place to be

It's in the middle of the country
It really was quite far
We'd go there every holiday
Dad would take us in the car

It was a fun place to be around
With a barn and pigs in sheds
And getting lost at bed time
In great big feather beds

Summer seemed to last for ever
The sun shone every day
We'd play in the fields till tea time
And wish that forever we'd stay

Like all holidays they have to end
And leaving was always a pain
But we knew that come next summer
We would see aunties house again

Remembering our favorite toys and stories

Post  Cheryl Brickner on Mon Nov 28 2011, 11:39

My Favorite Toys

My grandmother's house was
Full of toys.
A dresser for the girls and
A box for the boys.
I loved to play with lots of dolls.
Some were very old,
As my grandmother told.
My favorite was a porcelain doll
Who was kept separate and down the hall.
She was a beauty with starry eyes
Made of glass and seemed alive!
I also loved to draw and color
Unlike some of the others.
Drawing and coloring took up a lot of my time....
It still does to this day where
You may find my paintings online.
The "Arts" are very special to me.
They are God given talent
Which defines my destiny!

Toy

When I was but a boy
I had but one favourite toy
It was a Van, a bakers van
painted yellow and green.
This I told my Mum to be
a Christmas present for me.

On the morning of Christmas day,
excited I was, I have to say...
Came a box for me, and it was large you see.
Open the box to see my dream for me,
My bakers van large to see.

For some unknown reason
For you to believe I nicknamed it a 'Lip-lap' van.
Gawd bleeding knows why?
All that day I drove that toy all around the living room floor.

Dreams of being a baker’s boy
Did come from playing with my toy
(Jinetty your thoughts I hear, naughty, naughty).
Playing with my bakers van I did,
But drive it so far,
Delivering bread to make some dough.

And so it came to past that a wheel,
but one did but break.
So, off to the plastic breakers yard it did but goes
And so I lost all that dough.

Thoughts of being a baker’s boy did come to me.
But it was eventually a milkman’s boy I did become.
So there Tee hee hee.....[/b][/center]

Summers Past

Days of summers past I do but memory last.
Down in the country where the grass is green.
Where the Cider apples grow in the fields of Somerset so.
My boyhood dreams of long summer days,
With Cousins we were but five.

With Bobby the dog we would but roam,
Through country lanes and open fields.
Out of Grandparents house we came,
to walk on down the lane.
Past the barking dog we go,
Then past a garden of mint did grow.

Over the stile into field we went,
Along the path to distant place we wander.
Avoiding cowpats and tall thistles we did but go.
Reaching the river to cross we all but went,
Towards the railway not far to go.
Sit on the railway bank we did to watch,
And wave at the trains to past for awhile.

Wander further upon our land.
Laughing and playing so innocently.....Tee hee!!
Adventures doth seek throughout our days
Upon this but Gods chosen Earth.
Oh where have these days but gone
Into my memory they do but stay.
Those long hot summer days hath past
For we have grown to love those days gone by,
Oh those be my Summers Past.

The Telling

Post  Teresa Jane Price on Wed Nov 30 2011, 11:53

There neath the decorative tree,
Twas but a wonder of a gift for me.
A black orb with a speck of white
With an eight centered just right.
Why Santa leave me this
I asked while shaking the gift?
A mere ten years old twas I,
All excited by the good christmas vibe,
As my mom smiled with delight
And Santa twas long gone into the night.
So into the eight I asked,
"Why is dad sitting there all in laughs?"
So with that question, a shake and then a flip,
There neath the small glass eye, an answer floated.
"Do not know," it read,
Leaving me scatching my head.
But as the moments fleed,
The magical eight ball became a joy to me.
Oh, what fortunes did I tell
With each question, shake and reveal.
Years passed, and this gift I kept,
Till a fire broke the glass and melted the eight.
Heart broken twas I to lose this gift
And with it a good memory of Christmas.
So, the following Christmas Eve night.
My mom gave unto me a magical surprise.
Ya see, at ten I twas poor
And this twas all my parents could afford.
My mom understood and again gave this gift,
Reminding, the littlest things make Christmas.

Excellent poems everyone, sorry to say, in my youth I had no favorite toy, but will try to thing of something for this prompt...

WOO HOO I found it ! This makes ME very happy ! Very Happy

THE THINKING TREE

No favorite I had when I was but a lass,
no doll, stuffed animal I had.
When the time came and I wanted to play,
it was in a tree where no one could find me.

To be alone and think of what to be,
in my thinking tree you see.
Far away and places unknown,
in my thinking tree I could be me.

Way at the top on a branch,
flying high as a kite.
Floating on a cloud,
not knowing where I was bound.

My thinking tree and I would go,
across the seven seas.
On the back of a whale,
or swimming beside a dolphin.

Yes, in my thinking tree I can go anywhere,
I could be anything in my thinking tree.
Alas my thinking tree is gone,
all I have are my memories.

To be alone and think of what to be,
in my thinking tree you see.
Far away and places unknown,
in my thinking tree I could be me.
