2/18 Less Insignificant Poetry Prompt

Post  Lucie on Sat Feb 18 2012, 09:30

...

Simply think of an inanimate object and write 'A Day in the Life Of'
as a not so insignificant being.

Big Bad Blue

Post  Lucie on Sat Feb 18 2012, 10:40

Don't be fooled by the label
reading 'non toxic glue'
I aint washable nor safe
I'm the Big Bad Blue!
I'm thick and i'm handy
I'm powerfully strong
I weigh forty grams!
and am made by Spectrum.
When life tears you up
You've no choice to succumb
You'll need me and want me
I'm a son of a gum.
Just twist at the base
And i'll stick down ya troubles
I'm dependable, see
I wont leave any bubbles.
I warn you, just sometimes
Keep ya eye on me kid
I get vexed if i'm pinched,
squashed or you lose my lid!
So remember the BIG jobs
When something wants doing
Just call on BIG Blue
I'm the guy-for the gluing!

People with voices

Here we sit gathering dust
Wanting a pee fit to bust
Nobody looking to see if we're right
Just watching the hours
Between morning and night

We got used to the fact
That they leave us alone
You learn to adapt
In the twilight zone

They turn up to feed us
Twice a day
Then before we have finished
They take it away

Some aren't so bad
They'll stop for a chat
But then after ten minuets
They piss off and that's that

We don't have visitors
We come under the heading
Of Nutters and loonies
And water’s of bedding

We don't ask for much
We are easily pleased
We just want the right
To enjoy the Birds in the Trees

Just because we have wheels
And don't use our legs
Doesn't give you the right
To treat us like dregs

We are people with voices
So let us have the word
Even we have our rights
And we want to be heard

It Stands Alone

It stands on the table
all on its own,
It has its own space,
don't you know.

It sometimes makes,
a sound which is
hard to understand.
It stands and stares
at me most of the time.

And then that sound
it chimes again and again.
It sometimes moves,
to the other side of the room,
as flies gracefully across the bedroom.

Many is the time I've put that
damn alarm clock back together again,
just like Humpty Dumpty
Almost all of the time.

But do need to say that damn clock
Its stands alone……….!!!!

Soapy....

Post  jinettyx on Mon Feb 20 2012, 00:40

Soap….

You undressed me from my wrapper
You looked…and then you laughed
You etched your name into my skin
Then chucked me in the bath!!
I sank down to the bottom
It was hot, then all went foggy
I didn’t know what happened next
But I began to go all soggy!!
Then something rather scary
Descended down on me
The water was quite cloudy
Making it impossible to see.
“Oh help!” I cried, to no avail
“It’s coming down so fast”
“It’s big, it’s huge it’s pink and plump,
It’s so hairy and so vast!!
After a while, a hand did grope
Upon my rope so tight
It yanked me up, I breathed in air
It was an awful fright!
I was still alive… But did I care?
Upon your loofah, my flesh you tore
No more will I be smooth as silk
Just so worn out…abused!!
Abandoned on the floor!!

Here I set
With a broken heart
In so much pain
I dare not fart

Lump in my bum
the size of a quince
Every time I fart
It makes me wince

Creamed up so much
I dare not move
Popping the pills
Hoping things will improve

Not moving that much
Keeping as still as I can
All in all
A sorrowful man

Clock

Standing in the corner
Stately all by itself
Too small for the floor
Too big for the shelf

It used to belong to grandma
It used to stand in the hall
Just past the coat rack
Lent against the wall

Sometimes it was slow
Sometimes a little quick
The hour hand was bent
So every hour it would stick

Granddad bought it
Just after the war
He wasn't into DIY
So it just sat on the floor

I inherited it last week
When grandma past away
If I cant get it going
I'll through the bloody clock away

Hanging on the wall between the telly and the door,
awaiting wanten players as they pass across the floor.
And if it isn't cricket season, football, golf or pool
Then maybe i'll be remembered as a pubs ist game of rule.
My rounded face of bristles, standing tall and still and proud
beckoning you to form a team and stand out from the crowd.
My game requires arithmetic and a steady hand to start
three worthy flights, a damn good throw of a set of balanced darts
I used to be surrounded by large burley men who'd score
and when they hit the bullseye, well, you should've heard 'em roar!

Dell

You don't know it, but I watch you . . .
I see your face - once clothed in possibilities, but now
a blank stare wearied blue.

I used to smile when you'd smile.
I'd laugh - though silently; just one facade illumining another's,
but lately it's been awhile.

And then you tell them you're busy -
you and those keys clacking away like alphabet soup -
assuring all of your duty-related tizzy.

But I, the one mirroring your words
will air those written thoughts to you and you alone -
before the key strikes enter,
your muse has died spurned.

Thanks Lucie. Good to see you too. This is a good prompt - makes one think out side the box, as Pete would say.

Everyone, your poems are all great! Ever a learning curve here at BpoetryWriters, as Lucie has introduced me to a new word: wanten. It's DUTCH, and is the plural form of want.

Keep up the good work y'all. I'll be around from time to time . . ..

If upon your travels you should trip up over me,
Don't be so quick to disregard. I'm very special, see.
I'm not too small to choke on, I am safely pocket-sized.
I'm treasured by both boys and girls, and get catch adults by surprise!
I get to travel everywhere. I'm really made quite tough.
All snuggled in your pocket. All be it, wrapped in fluff.
I am familiarly needed when visiting unknown places,
I give security and distraction when meeting strange peoples faces.
Have you guess why I give so much joy?
I'm each and ev'ry child's favourite TOY!
