Tear Dryer
For years now, I’ve wanted to take my life,
But I lack strength to thwart my will to live.
I pray instead that providence take me,
Suddenly, without realization,
Or so slowly, lingeringly painful,
A marked continuation of my Hell.
To what end should we strive so very hard?
What goal makes our living worth the effort?
If I could but see a glimpse of the end,
Perhaps I won’t be driven to meet it,
And for all I bemoan my lack of strength,
I just might find I have the strength to live,
After all. Though I bend my back in sorrow,
I lift tearful eyes toward Heaven to dry.

Re: Tear Dryer
It's incredibly sad to want to take ones own life......such a deep poem Mike, very well written with trepidation and turmoil in verse.

Thanks to you all. Sometimes I feel jolly, but most often not, and sometimes I'm downright miserable in my own skin. Ah, but such is my life. I thank you all for reading and for your heartening comments. Mike

Re: Tear Dryer
Hey Mike, I've had these very same thoughts. Probably not for the same reasons as you, but none-the-less, all thoughts of suicide are a cry of hopelessness from deep within.
I understand your health situation can definately lend itself to such thoughts. You know that too. Writing, for many (including myself) is sort of a popoff valve. I encourage you, knowing the articulation is a help, not a hindrence.
You have a lot to live for, you know. And when the Good Lord knows the time is right, it will be right, and in His time.
A bit about dark poetry I found at another site:
Curative Effects "The psychological benefits of writing Dark Poetry are substantial. The fact that you can share a little piece of your soul with another person just by writing is miraculous. Even the simple act of describing something that is bothering you in a new way can give you a whole new perspective, and help you find new ways to handle it. Above all, having someone else actually understand you at such a deep level makes you realize you're not so alone in the world after all."

Re: Tear Dryer
And a heartfelt Amen, Sister. Thank you. Your words are well taken. Thank you for caring to share. Thanks, Bev.
And Pee Wee, thank you for allowing this poem. I will try not submit any such dark poems in the future, unless of course the darkness serves a purpose for the poem and is resolved to light, as with this one. As for bad language - Heaven forbid. Thanks for the "gentle reminder".
