Cruising

Post  RichieO on Wed Mar 21 2012, 18:09

Cruising
The brightness of the morning sun
rises into a cloudless sky.
A new day starts at dawn,
another adventure about to form.

A breakfast of bacon and eggs
is cooking in the galley below.
The smell of which arouses
my hungry needs.
Fully nourished upon the nosh
it time to start our adventure true.

Upon the bridge I stand,
the engine below spluttering to start.
The soft vibration does tell me so,
the engine is all to well.
Slip the ropes from our moorings we do
and our boat it slowly drifts away.

With the throttle on full the cruiser,
now glides along this river wide.
The warmth of morning sun
mixed with a gentle breeze feels
so cool as we cruise along.

For we are upon the Broads,
the Norfolk Broads the beauty
known only to you.
Slowly we float along watching
the banks on either side.
Fields full of wheat and Rye,
occasional cattle in meadows
stop and stare has we go slowly by.

River life seen all round ducks,
swan and geese emit their sounds
as the boat invades their water space.
Family and Cousins decked out
around the boat sitting or laying
to catch the rays of the morning sun.

I stand here behind the wheel
contented to feeling alive,
life is so easy as I am floating along.
This holiday I do wish for it not end.
But a week soon gone will forever
be imprinted upon my mind.
But for now I shall enjoy these moments
as time slips so slowly by.

Thankyou for sharing your perfect holiday Richie...The Norfolk Broads are indeed beautiful although I have no 'sea legs' for barging up the canals myself, it sounds so idyllic. Wonderful writing old boy! Like Like a Star @ heaven

Ah Jinettyx, you should try it the experience is so relaxing and you get away from the traffic and hustle and bustle of a normal holiday. You'll never know if you won't enjoy unless you try, I would like to try it again and will do sometime later. My Mum was not sure she like floating on the water. But once there she enjoyed every minute.
Thanks for comments your words really give encouragement.....xxxx give flowers give flowers BIG hug
