3/26 Through the Open Door

Post  BC Williams on Sat Mar 24 2012, 10:58

Below are eight doors. Open each door and view the picture.

Write a poem of your style choosing, using one or all - if you're a brave heart and have nothing better to do!

Please include the door numbers at the top of your piece incase your poem is cryptic in nature. Remember, a *door* to one person is a [block of wood] to another.

Have fun!

Grand pops bench

Grand pop built a toilet
Built with his heart and soul
But didn’t think of everyone
Because he only made one hole

Sometimes when it got busy
We just didn’t know what to do
Just cross our legs or clenched
And formed an orderly queue

This was all right for the young ones
And the old ones tried their best
But when standing in line for some time
They really needed a rest

So we all complained to grand pop
And really hounded the man
Till he got his butt into gear
And came up with a kind’a plan

Now we still queue for ages
And still cross our legs and clench
But now we just take a number
And sit down on grand pops bench

Outhouses were a scary thing for me growing up. I was a sittin' in one when about 12 . .. it was night, and a bat was crawling around in the walls! I came running out with my pants down. affraid

Then, as an adult, I got 'stuck' in one, lol! Had to holler for help (at the great amusement of the others around, who KNEW the door locked shut!)

When you gotta go . . .you gotta go!

Post  mikeschultz on Tue Mar 27 2012, 08:10

Ah, Dear Bev, what could be better to do than to write poetry? As much as April is poetry month and I like to challenge myself, I propose that I will write three poems on each of the eight prompt photos (and a lovely set they are - very thought provoking and emotive). Okay so to restate and clarify, I will write the 24 poems through the month of April, posting completed poems as I go. Thanks for the prompt photos and the challenge. Good writing everyone. Read you later. Very Happy

Time Trickling :Door 2

Post  Teresa Jane Price on Tue Mar 27 2012, 08:14

No tics and tocs nor pendulum swings
As life trickles with the grains.
An existence fleeting in Chambers,
The glass containment of time,
The measuring of destiny.
This white sand flowing purposely,
Flowing with no hesitance,
Leaves one weary of ends,
Of what ifs or worse death.
And in such swiftness,
Haste forges anxieties,
Damning the last of one,
Nullifying prayers.
One turns to see the window,
The trees swaying,
As the wind gusts in triumph.
One sees the portraits,
Posing figures of yore,
Staring upon one,
Smiling with content,
Welcoming to their stillness,
To no more reflect.
What of their grains of time
And their moments of ending?
What word did they utter?
What notion did they think?
And with their last grain
Did from their bodies lift a soul
Or lay still for the cold coffin?
They stare at one,
These fixtures hanging.
And though one listens,
Their voices are mute,
Empty like the upper bulb.
The sand timer summons the reaper,
Summons ones desperation,
Ones lack of readiness.
But as swift as the sand,
Quickened is the hand.
And so with an urgent grasp
One flips the sandglass,
Renewing hope, vitalizing dreams
And damning the trickling grains.

Teresa, how wonderful to see writing from you again! This piece is deep, and a little different style then I'm used to seeing from you. I LIKE!

Thanks for sharing your wisdom.

Clickety Clack....

Post  jinettyx on Wed Mar 28 2012, 13:54

Clickety clack.

(door no.8)

Clickety clack, clickety clack
My heart beats in rhythm
To the wheels on the track

Clickety clack, clickety clack,
Onwards for miles
Don’t ever look back

Rolling and swaying
The rhythm beats faster
Clickety clack, the train is my Master

Taking me, speedily
Away from my home
Clickety clack, and I am alone

Faster and faster
Buildings are blurred
Escape to the country? Is this absurd?

Escape though, I must
New beginnings to find
Clickety clack, leave my troubles behind

The noise, it doth deafen
My brain in a spin
Clickety clack; get me off of this thing!

Into the unknown
I’m scared and upset
Why did I leave? Try to forget.

Clickety clack, no end to this track
Never look backwards
Never go back…

afraid

Sifting Sands

Post  Ellen S on Wed Mar 28 2012, 20:11

Door # 2

Sifting Sands

Life is like sifting sand
It's here and then it's gone.
So love each other while we can
For the loving is not long.

We were meant to be together
A gift from God above. To spend our lives together
To glory in our love.

To share our thoughts and hearts
As if there is no more.
To glory in each other's lives
For soon they are o'er.

Remember with each drop of sand
Our lives are shortening too.
May your days be spent in loving me
And mine in loving you.

Hard to believe Jin:-) You and your daughter . . . well, I'm very proud of you both. Very Happy

Oh, Ellen is a personal friend. She can't get on the net at this point, but I'm going to be making an account for her - and her SISTER, my best friend, Robin. Between us (Robin and I) we will share Ellen's work. She is a line sketch artist too, so we will share that side of her talent also!

Looking forward to having BOTH of them here on this forum:-)

Re Door 5

Post  Lucie on Fri Mar 30 2012, 13:01

As i wander through the whispering woods
With my ears pricked to the wind
A favoured interest I am fond
And a place my heart is pinned.

I hear the calls of many birds
And the buzz of busy bees
And watch the tiny bugs beneath
The spider as he weaves

I am bedazzled by the wonderous sight
As the sunrays dances on the leaves
And filled with heartfelt cheerfulness
That my heart gratefully receives

And as I cross a babbling brook
Oh the hours I have spent
Bring home a sudden call to me
( Oh cripes, I wish I'd went!)

But somewhere in a clearing
I's passed a sign towards a seat
And disguised as though a hollow tree
Someone's designed a discreat retreat

What a clever woodland wanderer
To consider at the brink
Whilst we creep to observe nature
Nature sneaks up, when we least think!

Door 4

Post  Lucie on Sat Mar 31 2012, 11:49

Door 4

A blanket made of silken thread
Appeared one dewy morn'
Made by a Dewdrop Spider
Such eligance it adorn'd.

She'd weaved a web of wonder
Trapping tiny water pools
Glistening in the sparkling sun
Like a myriad of shiney jewels.

She had delicately strung them
As a necklace of exquisit pearl
This delightful tempting trance had me
awaiting for the magic to unfurl.

For hanging in the balance
in every tiny droplet's beam
A glow of light within it's spere
Held a wish or treasured dream.

This window to another world
had lost me once again
The hours melted clean away
( so did my ball and chain)

This painted view of tranquility
serene, with rustic hues
Dappled softly by the flowers
Tiny petals lilac, pink and blues

The chalky walls that crumble
beckon me to warmly touch
I reach a little further out
Alas, so far. too much.
