Where Has the Green Gone

Post  RichieO on Tue Apr 10 2012, 04:55

Upon the green
I once did stand
Where fields of
Grass and corn
Once did grow.

Now upon these
fields doth grows
a garden of flowering
Concrete and steel

Oh where has the
green gone I ask myself
as I stand and gaze aloft.

Man's need to live
and dwell it seems
has taken away the green.

Will someone look after
the fields and forests
of green or will this
be only in a dream?

So where do I find
the green again,
do I travel far and wide
or wait for winter and
see the evergreen trees
and the berries of the
Holly tree?

Is there hope the green
will return to the cities again?
Yes, there is hope cos I saw
some grass growing through
pavements today.

Beautiful Rich. It's so sad how man keeps interfering with nature. If you reroute a creek, it will find a way to go back to it's natural flow. What might happen in our future as man, the concrete god, keeps covering more and more earth? Floods . . . ?

Thoughtful writing my friend.

Thanks Bev, when you see some of the big cities of this world being strangled by Skyscraper buildings you wonder when man will stop building on the green pastures and say enough is enough.....

Where Has The Green Gone

Post  cheryl.brickner on Wed Apr 18 2012, 15:33

Rich,
Very well said.

I walk along the pavement and wonder myself, where have all the trees gone
and pastures and flowers. What was once fields of green are concrete empires.
It's sad...
Well written

Cheryl
