Beyond Window 6

Post  mikeschultz on Sun Apr 22 2012, 11:21

I

Were all the sky a rainbow,
whose palette delights the eye,
I might write poems to show
how such colors make me sigh.

If only they could talk, just
once, what would they say to me?
Would they whisper and then trust
that I come closer to see

the misty tendrils of fog
show the golden morning sun,
a man, walking with his dog,
humming a Mark Knopfler tune,

and the trees both near and far,
dark and muted silhouettes
and ghostly shadows, azure
mist, violet, a palette

gradated in blue spectrums.
Surely a master artist
stroked, as a guitarist strums,
and painted the morning mist.

II

I fear it sounds pretentious,
yet I cannot stay my hand.
Beauty demands attention.

To whose glory, so precious,
Such views greet the waking man?
I fear it sounds pretentious,

A point of no contention,
We must surely understand.
Beauty demands attention,

As both vain and pious –
Beauty in a golden band.
I fear it sounds pretentious.

Up through lighter striations
To the darker heights it stands
Beauty demands attention.

Compelled to write description,
I’m at some Muses’ command.
I fear it sounds pretentious –
Beauty demands attention!

III

lost in the forefront of definition
with a focus too far to see up close
a lopsided bird nest sits on a branch

painted by God’s hand

or so it seems to me its probably
an old worn nest see the way it cants left
why I wonder the eggs did not spill out

muted blues on golden sand

built as it was upon a shifting branch
swaying and buffeted by strong breezes
did storms prove too much for the nesting birds

sky of colored bands
