The swaying reed.
If you see them sway within the wind
You can hear them gently sing,
Then they sway and turn another way,
Ii could watch them each and every day.
In the spring they start to grow,
Waiting for water to give them strength,
Waiting for wind to make them blow,
Hoping that a scythe will not make them fall, and give them the time to dry,
Just give them time to sway within the winds of time in the waysides or the fields
They let their head come high within and see the warblers grab the stems
And off they go and fly again.
One way then the other they fly about within them chirping amongst them making nests on the stems in spring
Making sure that raptors cannot get within and they hang their nests upon these stems and make the family of warblers sway within once again.
Summer passes and autumn comes to dry them out, men cut with scythe and lay them down, cut, cut, cut they go with blade,
Making sure they lay in sun and not in shade,
They lay long upon the ground and now the wind dries them not allowing any sound no more do they sing no more do they sway, men come and take them all away.
Then another man will come and he will search for young and strong,
He will use them his work on top of thatched roof they do go woven into the roof for time
The man looks at his work and says this is mine.
The humble reed is swaying in the wind,
Listen while you can to the sound that it makes,
Before it is turned into a roof by a cut of the scythe on an autumn’s day.
