River In Time

Post  RichieO on Mon Oct 01 2012, 12:57

River Of Time

Oh! This day is for me
Whilst wondering out aloud.
Listening carefully with an intensive ear.
To the sounds of life which befall
upon this pleasant land.

A river so clear laughs,
as it passes, gently under the trees.
Dancing endlessly has it
makes its way towards the sea.
Sending a feeling of hope
within my mind.

I lay in this meadow and look to the sky
All around me are the sounds
of summer birds and beasties,
reminding me of life’s creatures
who live for yet another day?

A wiry old fox watches me with intent,
close by, from the river bank.
Watching its young, as they all but drink
from the water so cool, so clear.
A wise old Owl gives a lone Hoot
deep within a tree unseen

This river slow but meaningful progress
brings life as it flows, towards a distant sea.
Sunlight, glints off its surface like
the twinkling of diamonds in abundance.

The soft and gentle flow as it trips
over the rocks and stones within its path.
Life is drawn to its banks of water so clear
For natures creatures to drink or absorb
It’s life giving essence,
for they will survive for yet another day.

A Heron glides slowly down from a sky so blue,
lands gracefully in the water so clear.
Its long legs keep its body clear of the water so cool.
Kingfishers, dive into the depths of this river so clear
for the unsuspecting fish to eat.

Is life like a river, formed from a drop of rain?
Born from the heavens? To a mountain so high,
thence into a river to give life to all.
To flow and find its way to the sea
to be absorbed by the sun
to the heavens and in time
to be reborn again.

I live to be reborn again
Waiting in this meadow of mine
By the waters so clear for this is
My River In Time.

Rich,

Your poem is nicely crafted, I loved the naturalist imagery.

I enjoyed reading your poem. As I read, your words took me back to a river that means a lot to me. Thank you.

There is such power in poetry. You were able to help me to see again my river as I read of yours. So many of our rivers seem to flow along quite well together.

Thanks again,

Mike
