Crawling

Post  Sue McDonald on Wed Apr 27 2011, 03:57

Crawling cautiously along the floor
with amazing grace for her age
she used all her given strength
to command her body to accept
the position she had seen of others.
Meagerly with no co-ordination
she set off from her new found stance
for an adventure of...
Crawling cautiously along the floor.

In Palest Moonlight

Post  BC Williams on Wed Apr 27 2011, 04:07

In palest moonlight Beth emerges.
Her long, flaxen hair a pearlish silvern,
she knows the lover she longs for
is bound tonight to return.

Wandering amongst tall lindens -
her crimson lips part ever so slightly
to inhale the crispness of night air.
She anxiously awaits her lover tonight.

In the distance hooves pound,
rumbling closer to the woodlet.
It was her lover Mark, searching
for her . . .
in palest moonlight Beth emerges.

HEY Dori!
I know you say you're in a slump, but I know you are capable too:-) I want you to try this . . . choose a generic beginning phase. That's the key. You get the right beginning (think of a phrase that can begin AND end like: the cat jumped very high) and that's half the battle! Try it . . .

hugs, bev

PS: this is NOT a competition of whose better than . . ."-)

Preparing for a party

Sitting in the corner
Covered head to toe in cream
Would I’m sure to some folk
Be their ultimate dream

Thing is it started fine
Just a normal kind’ a day
Preparing for a party
What more can I say

I’d made all the cakes
And the jelly was on the set
The house was clean and mopped
Kitchen floor still a little wet

I’d been down to the store
For the final odds and ends
Party poppers streamers
And little bags for all the friends

They will be here any moment
And the kitchen is a mess
Slipped on the floor as I walked in the door
Now I've cream all over my dress

Thought I’d got everything covered
Now I just sit here a scream
Sitting in the corner
Covered head to toe in cream

Hey, this is a good poem Peter, but it might be in the wrong place. The beginning and ending line are supposed to be the same.

Sue's line: Crawling cautiously along the floor
Mine: In palest moonlight Beth emerges.

Can you make the first and last line of this poem be the same?

She sat and thunked throughtout the day,
her thinking cap she had lost.
she walked and thunked about what to write,
ut the words would never come.

By the end of the day, she had thunked so hard
that her brain just went to sleep, for she'd
sat and thunk throughout the day her thinking
cap she had lost.

That's MY best !

Okay sweet Dori, mind if I lend a hand? You have it nailed except in the presentation, and a couple word alterations. Let's take a look see.

Here's what you have so far:

She sat and thunk throught out the day for her thinking cap she had lost, she walked and thinked about what she will write but the words would never come, by the end of the day she had thanked so hard that her brain went to sleep for she...........
Sat and thunk through out the day for her thinking cap she had lost...

Wonder what would happen if we made the lines shortened by breaking up the sentences a bit? Wonder also how it would look if it were formatted into verses?

Maybe something like this:

She sat and thunk throughout the day,
for her thinking cap she had lost.
She walked and thunk about what she would write, (internal 'near' rhyme!)
but the words would never come.

By the end of the day, she had thunked so hard
that her brain just went to sleep, for she'd
sat and thunk throughout the day,
for her thinking cap she had lost.

Hey, I think it's cute as baby pickles:-) Almost like a wee nursery rhyme. Way to go, Dori!

Nothin' Changes

Post  BC Williams on Thu Apr 28 2011, 10:24

The story go on, nothin' never change in Montpelier.
That the way it is here, Miz Fanny.
Other day, 'ol Sandy O'brannon fell off the step
behind Miz Slappy Five & Dime.
He hain't hurt hisself much,
just his pride.
His eye caught hold a Miss Jenny,
the new mam in town -
she has her a baby called Luther,
and not no sign of her a man.
She be fearsome pretty, Miz Fanny,
out of Sandy's league,
wearing that summer sleeveless
with grape-colored flowers sprawled like wild sweetpea.
Clyde Hanson saw it all, he did.
Rushed a Buick LeSabre
just to open the door for Miss Jenny.
She don't nod much.
Folks round here don't cotton to her neither.
Knocked a loose tooth ajar, ol' Sandy did,
but he say it be worth it. He say,
"That gal slip of a dress caught the breeze and got me awonderin.
Cain't hep it, showin' leg like that should be illigal, but I glaaad it ain't!"

Town Council voted to tear down
old Cobb's place out on Highway 16.
They knowed squatter Joe been keepin' the place
like he promised Miz Watkins afore she died.
Been three years . . .
squatter Joe done her right,
'cept he hain't got no money ta keep up them taxes.
They say they obliged to 'remove' Joe next week,
less'n he come up with 467 dollar and 93 cent.
Joe hain't seen no money like that
since his pap died in nineteen-and-sixty-one.
Joe old, Joe cain't work no more.

My little sis start school Monday.
Me'n Tom don't go no more 'cuz we
big and strong, help daddy.
We tag along up and back, though.
The woods is a scary thing ta my little sis.
Sheriff Barker ain't found that bastard killed widow Plait's girl.
Some say he be a ghost. Some say he the devil hisself.

I promise I write you ever once in a blue moon.
Momma send her love and wish you move home,
cuz she lonesome now you gone.
I miss you too.

Love, Tom
PS: Like I said,
the story go on, nothin' never change in Montpelier.

man waiting

Post  Fred West on Thu Apr 28 2011, 10:39

I saw a man who waited there
he said he wanted to eat a pear
he said an apple it might do
so at the fruit stall he did wait
I saw a man who waited there
he picked an apple not a pear
he was just waiting there.
he picked some grapes and other fruit
I saw a man who waited there

This here is one that I wrote sometime ago..

STAR LIGHT DIAMOND BRIGHT

Star light diamond bright moon glow in the night,
Make a wish find your love,
Making love till the morning sun.

Family comes one by one until you're completely done,
What's that in your hair strains of silver you are told.
Growing old with your lover never to replace each other,
Star light diamond bright moon glow in the night
