No More To Return

Post  Teresa Jane Price on Wed Jun 22 2011, 01:01

Humped with sadness,
Weary of the lapse of time,
Eyes reddened with sorrow,
His life ended, slain by her gone.
And mourning's roughness beseeched,
Till strengthened did he to see an image,
Canvassed by steam, as if daring.
And then aloud, his mind spoke,
Though his chapped lips parted not.
And with the utter, the clock's cadence echoed,
Swallowing a past, except the gone of her.
And with the mirrors veil wiped away,
Reflect did he, till no more to stare at such.
Dress did he, glancing through the room
To no more see her, except upon the dresser.
And so with tiredness, he paced
To the black suited man's place.
Remembering her smile, her beauty,
With tears streaming, he said,
No more shall she return,
So belaud her memory I shall
And see no more that which lays
In preparation for a grave.

Oh Teresa. This is so so good in it's sorrowfulness. I love the way you write . . . makes me want to grab a cup of tea and linger.

Great writing - bev

Well-written and a good read and the theme is all too familiar to anyone who's lived a while. Keep up the good work. Love reading your poems. Mike

Sad but beautifully written. As said above, if we have lived long enough, we have all experienced this. Never is it easy to walk through. Very emotional poem.
