WAVES
Watching the waves roll in
I wonder how far they've been
To break upon this shore
Those rolling waves of the sea
So vast it comes upon the Surf
Over sands and pebbles of the land
You unfold your waters so clear.
Rolling and heaving your breakers
Are seen white and frothing and clean
Upon your crests seabirds are seen
In your trough’s the fish unseen
Keep rolling you rocking waves.
Slowly, Oh so slowly
You come, to reclaim your earth.
The sounds and smells of this sea
I've found, brings peace of mind
Upon these surroundings, on this land.
Upon the seas all around
Sail ships so pro-found
Watching I see, a sailor’s life
It’s really not for me.
So for me I would rather be....
Watching that sea come rolling to me.

Re: Waves
I enjoyed your poem very much. I love the imagery of the sea and the way you invoke the sights as well as the smells and sounds of the salted sea. I was a life-long sailor (I captained my own work boat on the Chesapeake Bay as a boy, until I joined the Navy at 17, in 1971, and retired (at 38) as a Submarine Sailor and Submarine Engineering Systems Specialist in 1991.) I, too, now enjoy walking along the beach beside my old friend.
Thanks again for your poem. I liked it immensely.

Re: Waves
The beach can convey so many feelings that there are sometimes as many emotions as there are pebbles. x

Thanks Lucie, I just love sitting on a beach listening to sounds of the sea. It's very peaceful once everyone has has left the beach........!!
