THE LOVERS TREE

THE LOVERS TREE Empty THE LOVERS TREE

Post  Dori on Fri Sep 02 2011, 07:40

Years ago and far away,
true love came to a boy and girl in the usual way.
They pledged their love by planting a tree,
and as the tree grew so did their love.
They would meet both night and day at the tree
continuing to pledge their love.

Now it was at this tree he asked, "How much do you love me?"

Her reply was,"As long as this tree lives, so shall I love you.
As long as the flowers bloom on the tree, so shall my love for you be."

"And my love for you grows too as does this tree,
so beside this tree I'll ask you to marry me."

With family and friends and the birds,
with the flowers that bloomed,
they pledged their love once again.
With rings on their fingers and love in their hearts
they became husband and wife.

Through the years they built their family and home beside this tree.
No swing or tree house was used,
only them there beneath the tree
to sit and dream of years long ago.
No longer were they boy and girl,
for they grew and told their children
about their love and the day they met.
As the tree grew older so did the boy and girl,
as their love bloomed, so did the flowers on the tree.

As the years went by the boy and girl grew very old.
They sat beneath the tree where a natural seat was formed;
he held her so tenderly as she laid her head upon his chest.
There they died in each others arms
and in this tree their bodies lie in rest.
You can see them still if you look very hard.

People come from miles around
just to see the tree that never dies,
for it shall forever be . . .The Lovers Tree.

Oh Dori, this is beautiful! It's just beautiful . . . It sort of reminds me of that poem I wrote called, Of Olden Trees and Rural Scenes. This is quite possibly your best work of the day:-) Thank you for coming back and starting anew!

Bev

Thank you Bev, for you wonderful comment, and your help. = )
If you look at the left side of the tree you will see a big lump, what does the shape look like to you in between the roots and the branches.

Like two people hugging. I couldn't see it in the small pic, but I can in the large one:-)
