the mind has drowned

Post  Fred West on Wed Nov 14 2012, 06:33

The Mind has Drowned
As he sits there on a bench he looks upon the day that dawned
But only in his mind does he see what is there
And having noted it is gone.
Years ago he could remember it all everything he learned at school,
Now he is sitting so forlorn, waiting for his taxi home,
But he cannot reach out to anyone his mind will not carry information now
His mind is what he sees and hears and only then does he sees and hear but no longer retains and no more remembers,
From one day o the next whether October or September.
He sits upon the bench alone, no more mind to fill his day,
He will go home empty today but wondering if his tea is cooked,
But who is the person who is standing there? The person with that long grey hair?
How long have they been here all day long! Maybe they are here and they can be strong,
For the way he can remember not he knew the name and now he forgot.
From the bench how did he get home? Why does everybody moan at what he says and cannot remember?
Is it January or September, he knows not what he is looking for tries to walk again outside the door
Someone calls him darling and sits him down on a chair, now he just sits and stares,
At all who come and never seem to care.
It is he who does not see or care because his mind is no longer there
Poor dad he lost it some time ago, he sued to walk his dog to town
Now he does not know he frowns,
His mind is drowned

What a sad rendering of an all-too-common occurrence these days. Very good writing Fred!
