In the Mist of the Horizon

Go down

In the Mist of the Horizon

Post  Fred West on Sun Jan 13 2013, 08:29

In the Mist of the Horizon
Looking across the fields of time, and wondering about the bogs,
All the pathways of time gone by and they way the monks did walk that way,
Then the Dutch arrived and the Bedford’s were sunk and suddenly fields were in the place of the water.
One place always stays the same, the Cathedral in the Fens, Ely.
Standing on a hill of high looking out to sights gone by, going through change but the fenland cathedral is always the same,
It takes the sun it floats on mist and wherever you look you can see her, on her hill standing guiding, and letting people know that this is the Fens because this is where she stands on high as time goes by.
The Queen of The Fens is always there always asking men to bear,
The way for them to come to God and always was letting them see that He is near.
She rises from the land and all can see that miles around, without her uttering single sound,
The monument to the fens is still around, large stone tower shining in the Fenland sun,
Farmers look at the plough but always glance at the way she stands, always in view.
The bells can be heard on still days across the flat lands of the eastern ground,
Birds sing pheasants also sound off but they all go away some day,
But she is always there in fist and fog in sun and star,
Always helping man and child to see a point that can be seen from a far
Like the bible said you will see a sign, and the men of the fens have their own sign
Ely sitting on the hill and all feel safe while she is there,
A guide to men and women of the past and today she is still there, while driving you look across the fenland way and there in the mist of the horizon is the Queen of the Fens,
Saying you are safe still I am sitting on the hill go on your way for you have seen me today and all is safe and well.
A smile comes to your face the sun has shown and the mist has fallen but away in the distance is the reason you came today to see the Queen of the fens and you saw her away out there and you smile content.
