Back to Sleep Empty Back to Sleep

Post  mikeschultz on Sun Feb 03 2013, 17:53

As late night is early morning,
It’s all the same really,
To wake and listen to the world,
A new moon shines darkly
Through curtains shutting out the stars’
Measured reality,
Till morning when we say, “Adieu,”
With no tears of pity.

To know, one must care and listen,
Our stories fill our lives,
Life lessons learned and shared around,
As each new day’s sun shines
And will long after our last day,
In the morning’s smallest hours
When heartbeats make drums of our ears,
Making sounds as lovers.

The hours between night and day,
Too few to sleep, or think,
Nothing less, more than love, fills our thoughts,
Skating around the rink,
Moments thought priceless, now measured
As unqualified drink.

Midway between three-ten and four,
Yesterday’s fever left
Me satisfied, tired and ready
For some rest to uplift.
It’s still dark outside my curtains,
Still, they let my mind drift.

Back to Sleep Empty Re: Back to Sleep

Post  mikeschultz on Tue Feb 05 2013, 07:35

Thanks, Sue, very much. I hesitated to post this one, as it does approach the obscure side of self expression, but now I'm glad I did. I like very much that you find the piece "intriguing". I spend a good deal of time reading and studying poetry and find that much of it (my own included) leaves much to be desired, such as a tad bit of understandable content and form. I worry some with that point in my poetry. After all, I ask myself, what good is a poem that talks to no one but me?

Thank you, Sue.
