Supper

Post  Teresa Jane Price on Wed Apr 20 2011, 07:40

.

Humming, though not in the distance
Touches my memory with momma's kitchen.
The hum, the motherly humLingers
with the aroma of her cooking.
As she gafully prances about in the steam.
Mindless to evening's rise and day's dim.
This scene I've seen a hundred times or more,
She tasking about and i peering through the door.
Looky here, her tea is ready to drink,
While tater peelings fill her sink.
Sliced tomatoes, salted and peppered.
Ooh yea, cucumbers and onions vinagered.
Making me eyes swell up, pierced are my senses,
As too the old stovefrying chicken.
My wee stomach growls, filled with hunger.
As boiling pots lids dance on the burners.
While she kneads the dough for the supper bread,
And turning the chicken in hot popping grease.
Knowing do I, when the biscuits brown with rise
Fed I'll be with great delight.
When plattered is the chicken, the gravy made
The sun hides and evening has been laid.
Her table is set with a supper spread.
All shall be called and her family fed.

I imagined the setting of the poem, everyone of us keep in his mind such nice memories of childhood and the family gatherings, but more the poem takes us to privacy of your local culture which is very interesting.
very nice poem
